Research accolades to the Arthritis Research Centre of Canada (ARC) scientists
Canadian Arthritis Network (CAN) Strategic Research Program
In the recent (and last) Strategic Research Program competition, two of the four funded projects were awarded to ARC scientists. Congratulations from the Centre for Hip Health and Mobility (CHHM) to Drs. Antonio Avina-Zubieta and Carlo Marra.
- Dr. Antonio Avina-Zubieta, newly appointed BC Lupus Research Scholar and UBC Assistant Professor of Medicine, was funded to establish a systemic autoimmune rheumatic diseases (SARDs) registry. His current research interests include cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in rheumatoid arthritis, drug related outcomes in rheumatoid arthritis, and health related outcomes of rheumatic diseases at a population level.
Dr. Carlo Marra was funded to work on a novel approach for getting people with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) who are not receiving second-line drugs like methotrexate to use them. His main research interests are in health economics, quality of life research, and pharmacoepidemiology.
Great news for Mushfiqur Rahman, who has been awarded a Frederick Banting and Charles Best Canada Graduate Scholarships - Doctoral Award from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. He is currently a doctoral student in the School of Population & Public Health at the University of British Columbia supervised by Dr. Jacek Kopec.
