CHHM Researchers launch new Canadian Centre for Group Appointments website
The CCGA supports the development and implementation of Group Appointments—an innovative approach to healthcare delivery and chronic disease prevention and management.
Of every dollar we spend in Canada on direct medical care, 42 cents goes to chronic illnesses. Chronic diseases place a substantial burden on families, communities, and our healthcare system. That’s $39 billion a year or about $1,200 per year for every person in your family, every person in the country.
Group Appointments (GAs) are designed to encourage and support positive change amongst chronic disease patients.
Studies in the United States have reported large improvements in health-related quality of life and significantly decreased emergency department visit.
This work is being led by Dr. Karim Khan and David Adams. Their research is focused on Group Appointments and their impact on:
- Patient Quality of Life
- Patient Care and Improved Clinical Markers
- Chronic Disease Prevention and Management
- Promoting Exercise is Medicine
- Health Economics
