Model for knee OA progression

Development of a model for the MRI progression of knee osteoarthritis.

Project Goals - What are we doing?

To develop a model for the progression of early knee osteoarthritis (OA) based on clinical symptoms and known risk factors, using MRI as the gold standard, to evaluate progression.

Research Outcomes - What will be achieved?

The development of a novel and inexpensive clinical tool for assessing the progression of early knee OA. By differentiating progressors from non-progressors, this tool will substantially enhance our ability to efficiently evaluate disease-modifying drugs in clinical trials.

Background - Why is this research important?

The development of techniques for the early detection of osteoarthritis will provide the unique opportunity to screen patients at high risk for progression and as such has tremendous potential to reduce both disability and health care costs.
