Research Overview
CHHM investigators are internationally recognized. We use integrative, comprehensive and multidisciplinary approaches to investigate bone and joint health. Our innovative and collaborative research is in imaging, bone health, risk prevention, sociological assessment, epidemiology, population health, bioengineering, biomaterials, biomechanics, implant design, molecular studies of injury and repair, cellular and biochemical assessment and surgery.
Research at the CHHM is focused on four broad themes; within each theme, the CHHM has defined goals.
Hip Fracture Prevention
10% reduction by 2015 to improve seniors' independence and quality of life. This will save the health care system over $100 million annually in Canada.
Surgical Solutions
Doubling British Columbia's access to state-of-the-art minimally invasive hip surgery and speeding recovery after surgery.
Early Detection of Osteoarthritis
Pioneering imaging methods to allow early intervention, promote long-term mobility and improve quality of life.
